HBYCC has a thriving Junior section thanks largely to the efforts of long time member Peter Caissa.What better way to boost your childs academic performance whilst letting them have plenty of fun than to join the junior section of HBYCC? In fact this years club champion in the seniors section is a former junior member and junior champion, Timothy Trott.He has done this whilst studying hard for his degree at University! We are very proud of him and all our junior members.
This years junior champion is Nathan Hibberd.Congratulations Nathan,no doubt there will be some fireworks when you join the seniors section.

Congratulations to Timothy Trott the 2009 Hobsons Bay /Yarraville Chess Club Champion!
Timothy the young,quiet achiever played consistent,attacking chess to beat many players with a higher rating and thoroughly deserves the title.Also he is the youngest ever chess champion HBYCC has had so well done Tim!!
In the Reserves Milan Ilic won fairly easily and if he were playing in the club championship he would be a good chance for that title as well.Thanks to all players who participated this year we wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.Hopefully you will all come back next year for some more fighting chess! No doubt Timothy would tell you that it is all about the enjoyment and participation.

With average ratings of all teams being within 47 rating points the event was going to be close and in the end draw offers throughout the event and their acceptance or rejection decided the placegetters.
The winners were the Knights of the Square Table of Timothy Trott, Calvin Bennett and Vic Potulic (7.5pts/5MP). Second on countback were Hog n bury (7pts/6MP) with third Triangulation (7pts/4MP).
Top scores were Dean Hogg (4/4 on Bd1), Tony Davis (Bd1) Antonio Ramos (Bd3) & Vic Potulic (Bd3) each 3/4. Other plus scores were Calvin Bennett & Peter Caissa (both Bd2) on 2.5/4.
Outstanding performances were by Timothy Trott , Antonio Ramos , Vic Potulic & Steven Hogan.

Three players shared the top spot with 4/5.Highest rated chess champion Dean Hogg,occasional player Peter Wolf and old timer Derek Richards.Derek having a particularly good night as he tore through the field in a stunning display of power chess showing that you are never too old to play.Hobsons Bay/Yarraville chess club welcomes players of all ages and levels of experience so come along and join in the fun!

Timothy Trott won the blitz 3 tournament with 5/5.A sensational performance from the young chess player beating some of the clubs best players in the process.Congratulations Timothy and make sure you play just as well in the club championship.

Congratulations to Tony Davis and Dean Hogg in sharing the top spot in the Koshnitsky Cup with 4/5 each.

Dean Hogg won the blitz 2 tournament showing that currently he is the best blitz player at Hobsons Bay/Yarraville chess club.Other notable performances were from newcomer Damien Caron and Dallas Gatti.Luckless youngster Steven Hogan ended up with 0 points however if the game was chess boxing,then no doubt Steven would be at the other extreme of the standings.
